WELCOME TO PUERTO PRINCESA CITY!!!

Puerto Princesa City is not just a city where forests are the only thing that you can find. It is also a destination for beach lovers, underwater explorers and those who want to meet the friends of Nemo (a clown fish). If you are looking for a two in one water adventure – like snorkeling and island hopping that suits your budget, Honda Bay in Puerto Princesa and Island hopping in Elnido is the best place to visit.

THE FAMOUS UNDERGROUND RIVER IN PUERTO PRINCESA…

The park was declared a premier ecotourism destination and has been inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage lists for its outstanding universal value and ecological significance as a natural site of intense beauty and won New 7 Wonders of Nature.  The entire experience is surreal. You will, after all, be surrounded by nature’s best. You will be standing at the lagoon where the salt water met with fresh water. You will be awed with the rocky entrance luring tourists of its magnificence. You will be dazzled by the mineral formations that took hundreds or even thousands of years to create. The underground river is, indeed, one great wonder of nature. — at Puerto Princessa City Palawan.

Image

At the mouth of the cave, a clear lagoon is framed by ancient trees growing right to the water’s edge. Monkeys, large monitor lizards, and squirrels find their niche on the beach near the cave. The Underground River was phenomenal. So much of it is yet to be discovered, and tourists are only allowed to see a couple of kilometres of it. It is pitch dark inside, and you can volunteer to sit in front and hold the search light. All you have to do is listen to the boatman and point the light to wherever he says. You will see some pretty amazing rock formations, and the size of the thing is breathtaking. — at Puerto Princessa City Palawan.

Image

Aside from its staggering length and shape, within it lie unique discoveries, which were, until recently, unknown even to those who had frequented the site. For the last several months, an Italian group called La Venta has been conducting studies there, and they have made some stunning discoveries—such as the fossils of sea cows or Sirenia dating back to the Miocene period—roughly 20 million years ago. Aside from being rare fossils previously found only in Java, Indonesia, these findings also emphasize further the sheer historic value of our Underground River and of the country we live in.

HONDA BAY ISLAND HOPPING

Image

In a buoyed off area in the water, you can go snorkeling and explore the sea life along the reef! You’re able to see hundreds of kinds of fish and starfish hidden among the crevices of the reef. After saturating yourself in too much swimming, snorkeling and fish watching its time to invade the sand bar for beach bumming and sunbathing to get that tan you always wanted. You can also eat your lunch in this island just ask your guide earlier so they can arrange the itinerary of the whole island hopping trip.

Image

LULI ISLAND – Luli is an abbreviation that stands for lulubog at lilitaw because this breathtaking island disappears during high tide and merges in its full glory in low tide. So be sure to visit the island during low tide to see the totality of the place. Luli Island composed of 3 sand bars with fine powdery white sand that you will like.

Image

Humble Cottages at Luli Island. When your boat passed by at Luli Island during high tide you will only get to see several cottages floating in the sea and no sign of the sand bar.  Flags are everywhere at Luli Island. It’s an ideal spot for snorkeling so get you gears ready and jump to the water to explore what lies beneath the water. To make things more interesting, bring a couple of breads to feed the fish so you can lure it near you and have a closer look at this magnificent creatures. The view is also spectacular so might as well turn on your camera and takes some wacky pictures with your friends with a nice backdrop of the sea.

Welcome to Palawan’s SNAKE ISLAND! Don’t be afraid, there are no snakes! The name only refers to the snake-like shape of the island itself.

Image

Snake Island was indeed very pretty. The water was clear and the sky a vivid blue. It had huts too where tourists could stay.

Image

Pandan Island is the largest and most developed island in the area. This is a favorite lunch place for tourists. You could either bring your lunch or buy from the vendors in the area. And if you’re thinking the name of the island is came from the word Pandan ( a grass/tree using for flavouring and handicrafts). Hmmmm…You’re right!.The island is called Pandan Island because of the abundance of pandan grass/tree that grows in the island.Several water activites like kayaking, paddle boarding & snorkeling are available on the island. Snorkeling was also fun coz you don’t have to go too far to see Nemo.

STARFISH ISLAND – SEE HOW CLEAR THE WATER IS…

STARFISH3

Starfish Island is one of the many pristine white sand beaches in the Honda Bay of Palawan. The brown clumps along the shoreline are actually groups of starfishes. STARFISH ISLAND – It is named as such because of the existence of various starfish in the island. They are beautiful to look at but never ever dare to take them with you. They belong to the sea and not to you.

Pambato reef 3

PAMBATO REEF – A raft in the middle of the sea is the marker where tourists can get off to swim and snorkel. The most shallow section from the coral reefs in this area is about 10 feet deep. Wearing a life jacket is a must, especially for those who are not good swimmers.

imgres

Pambato Reef is a marine sanctuary where you will see giant clams, different types of corals and thousands of fishes. On your Honda Bay tour, you’ll know you’re in Pambato Reef once you see the floating raft in shape of a turtle.  The place was accidentally discovered by a fisherman when his fish hook got entangled in the reef. When he dove into the sea to get his fish hook, he was enthralled by the beautiful things he had seen under water. From then on, the boat-owners association, where the fisherman who discovered the reef was a member, decided to make it another tourist spot in Honda Bay.

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY TOUR DESTINATIONS

DISCOVER ITS BEAUTY AND UNRAVEL THE HISTORY OF THE CITY…

240px-Cathedral,_Puerto_Princesa,_PhilippinesIMG_0460cathedral2

The cathedral was built during the Spanish colonization of the Philippines in the late part of the 1800s and is made of cement not limestone, it looks like ordinary church in the Philippines except for the color of it. Its design has angular structures, the arches inside and outside the church is pointed. The Feast of the Immaculate Conception is celebrated from November 29 to December 8.  The century-old cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Parish has been known as the center of spiritual refuge for locals and visitors of Puerto Princesa City.

plaza cuartel3IMG_1014IMG_6403

Built sometime in the 1940s, Plaza Cuartel once served as a stronghold of American and Filipino soldiers until they were overrun by Japanese invaders. The stronghold, once a haven of our brave warriors, became a prison.  As you enter the Plaza, you’ll immediately saw this menacing, foreboding looking iron gate. Behind it is a story of horror and incalculable suffering.

143 American prisoners were routed and stuffed in this tunnel with virtually no food or water. Then on December 14, 1944, soldiers of the Japanese Imperial Army poured fuel on the prisoners and set them on fire. 143 POWs were burned alive and 11 prisoners narrowly escaped the massacre.

Visit the Crocodile Farm, which also has a mini-zoo of other endemic species and a Research Institute dedicated to all things Crocodile.  The tour is limited to the hatchery and the small dens to give visitors a glimpse of what goes on inside a crocodile farm. A far larger number of crocodiles are to be found in the area, but visitors are not allowed to visit that part of the farm. Crocodile Farm also has a zoo featuring other animals living in Palawan.  Visitors are taken to the hatchery, where the baby crocodiles are born and through a den where the adult crocodiles are kept. Visitors can sample feeding the crocodiles to witness how they feed.

ranchoDSC07769_w

The Sta. Monica Ranch or most commonly known as Mitra Ranch is located uphill of Sta. Monica, Puerto Princesa, it is basically a ranch with cows and horses, with vast land and a beautiful view deck. This is owned by the Philippine Senator Ramon Mitra.  What makes this place different is its location. The location gives you a beautiful view of the sea, the mountains and the city. Sta. Monica offers the most breathtaking view of Palawan. It is a hundred feet above the rest of the city, giving you the nicest view of Puerto Princesa.

Baker's Hillbaker's hill2Palawan Baker's Hill

Baker’s Hill is one of the tourist attraction in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. Baker’s Hill is literally on top of a hill where a number of bakers work together to offer deliciously baked goodies for tourists and visitors. Apart from the freshly baked breads and snacks, you can also stroll around the area for free. This privately owned parked is open to the public. Thanks to the extremely generous owner.    Baker’s Hill is still a perfect place to eat, relax and take pictures. The area is very clean and well maintained. Well, at the end of the day, there’s no place like Baker’s Hill in the Philippines – bakery with delicious breads plus a park with beautiful garden! What more can you ask for?  There are also several birds in the garden including Myna, Peahens and Peacocks.

baywok2Baywalk Palawan - 1baywalk at night

Puerto Princesa City Baywalk is Palawan’s very own version of our Manila Baywalk in Roxas Boulevard. It’s located beside the port area and is walking distance from the public market.  The baywalk is a developed seafront strip providing a scenic place to view the sunrise or the beautiful sunset. During the morning, you’ll find lot’s of locals, walking, exercising and jogging.  Baywalk at night. There are a lot of food stalls and restaurants along the baywalk and a designated area for bike rides.

binuatanbinuatan6binuatan2

Binuatan Creations is a well-known handicraft shop that manufactures handloom woven products utilizing Palawan’s indigenous fibers.  Binuatan is a cuyonin word (native Palawan dialect) for creation. Here, they transform locally sourced materials like amumuting, buri, or abaca fibers into great exported goods like placemats, hand bags, blinds, and other products.  The locals can even teach you how to weave here.

souvenirs2souvenirs6souvenirs8

In this Pasalubong Center, you can find a wide variety of souvenir items like sarongs, t-shirts, woven bags and delicacies to bring home to you or your loved ones. If you are looking to get some fresh seafood which is around 40-50% cheaper than in Manila, then head to the Puerto Princesa Public Market where they sell assorted fresh seafood items like prawns, lobster, crabs and tuna. Dried seafood items like squid and danggit can also be bought here per kilo. Also not to miss when you’re in the Public Market is their cashew nuts and cashew wine.  The prices are not yet fixed so don’t be shy to haggle for a discount. The shop is air-conditioned so you can shop in comfort even if you have a hard time deciding what to buy yet. Palawan pearls (loose pearls or as jewelry), faux crystal bracelets, native trinkets, souvenir items like key chains, local food delicacies, sari, malong, swimwear, souvenir t-shirts, sun dress & duster, woodcraft, baskets, etc.  The next thing that comes to mind when you go to Puerto Princesa is pearl shopping. FIREFLY WATCHING

Firefly watching is one of the exciting experiences you’d surely enjoy when in Puerto Princesa city. It is the one adventure that allows you to get closer to nature and watch flickering creatures in the absence of the sun while breathing the freshest air. It will be unforgettable.

restroomboatsimgres

This activity just started 2008 with the discovery and assistance of ABS CBN managing director and Environmentalist Gina Lopez. Palawan is very rich with a healthy environment, thus fireflies are looming the area. The brackish river is about 10 meters wide and mangrove trees were planted on its banks. It was so nice to see the mangrove trees in the riverbank lit like tall Christmas trees with Christmas lights. The boat also had a red light that blinks. The purpose of which is to attract the fireflies to illumine themselves in unison. The tour guide seems to know well which trees are most populated with fireflies, and whenever you pass one, the red light blinks and the fireflies, in their proud moment, lit like little white stars scattered all over the leaves of the trees. If all the fireflies along the length of the riverbank will blink at the same time, it will be enough for you to see the whole landscape. One of the attractions in the river were the bioluminescent planktons that also illumine when you brush your hand in the surface of the water.

ELNIDO PALAWAN

ENJOY THE BREATHTAKING SCENERY & WONDERS OF NATURE AT ELNIDO.

Palawan is an archipelago of 1,780 islands on the western part of the Philippines. It has the most concentration of islands but is the most sparsely populated region in the country. Because of its scenic landscapes and high bio-diversity, Palawan is known as “The Last Ecological Frontier of the Philippines”.

The northern part of Palawan province is blessed with crystal-clear waters, pristine beaches, and a wealth of flora and fauna. It is here that El Nido and Taytay, home of the lovely El Nido Resorts, are located. Spectacular ancient limestone cliffs tower over marine sanctuaries teeming with innumerable species of tropical fish and coral, as well as five species of endangered sea turtles. Lush forests abound with more than 100 species of birds. It is a truly exotic destination.

El Nido is composed of 45 islands and islets, each with its own unique features. Most of the islands have pockets and coves of fine white sand beaches, perfect for sunbathing and picnic lunches. Within some of the islands are ancient caves with fascinating dripstone formations. In other islands, limestone walls open up to lagoons. Weathering and erosion created and continue to shape these interesting geological formations.

From the towering marble cliffs and enchanting lagoons to its 100 white sandy beaches and lush jungle, El Nido is one of the top tourist destinations in Palawan, which is often referred to as the Philippines’ Last Frontier. In the November-December 2007 issue of the National Geographic Traveler’s magazine, Palawan was chosen as one of the best travel destinations in the world, and particularly, it recommended El Nido and the Calamianes Islands.

SO COME AND EXPERIENCE PALAWAN, WE’RE HERE TO HELP AND GUIDE YOU TO HAVE AN ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME!!! I hope you get the chance to visit PALAWAN, and come back to your home with a smile on your face. Not a Boracay smile, which is one of bars and resorts, camaraderie and loud music, and drinking til dawn — but a PALAWAN SMILE, which is a smile of serenity and inner peace, understanding of nature, and alignment with the Universe.
